With spring around the corner, you might be thinking about how you can keep yourself busy without resorting back to old ways. Before your trip to the drug rehab center and before your sobriety journey began, your spring may have revolved around spring break partying and using drinks and drugs. Now that you’re in recovery, you want to leave all that behind and keep yourself healthy and safe, but you still deserve to have a good time! Here are some spring activities that promote sobriety and instill fun into your spring break.

Try Hiking
Hiking can be a great way to reconnect with nature and your body. You can hike with friends for a fun bonding experience or you could go it alone to have some peaceful time to yourself. Hiking in springtime gives you perfect weather conditions, as the weather starts to warm up and the air feels fresh. All of the plants and flowers start to bloom in spring too, so you’ll see lots of beautiful wildlife depending on what hiking trails you try. Best of all, hiking is a great form of outdoor exercise and you can take some fabulous pictures of the amazing scenery you see along the way.

Go Camping
If you want to get away from your everyday life and have a bit of fun, try camping! Go with friends or family that know you’re in recovery so that they know not to bring anything that might trigger you while away from your home or drug rehab center. Sitting by the fire toasting marshmallows, stargazing up at the night sky, and having meaningful and deep conversations with your friends are all the fun and amazing perks of camping and they’ll keep your mind off any counterproductive thoughts. There’s something fun and refreshing about going back to basics when camping; sleeping in tents and cooking your meals on a camp stove using tinned goods, it’s all part of the charm of camping! There are so many places you can camp, too. You can camp in the mountains, in the fields, or even by the beach, so you’ll never get bored of the scenery.

Try Gardening
If you don’t feel like straying too far away from home just yet or if you’re still in a drug rehab center, take advantage of the outdoor areas like the garden. If you don’t have a garden, try sprucing up your yard with some flowers and other plants. Having a small garden area to work on over the spring is a great pass time and it’s also rewarding as you can see the results of all your effort and hard work. Try growing some fruit and vegetables that you can use in your cooking or add a pop of color to your yard with some stunning flowers. You can add a comfy lawn chair and sit in your yard surrounded by all your beautiful plants and watch them day by day as they grow and flourish.
