Daily steps to maintain sobriety

If you're reading this, chances are that you have been struggling with sobriety. You may be looking for a way to maintain your sobriety after leaving a drug rehab & alcohol treatment center like the one here at Rob's Ranch. We're here to tell you that it is possible and that there is hope! There are so many things on this earth we cannot control, but one thing we can do is make an active choice not to use alcohol or drugs again. This blog will provide some daily steps for people who wish to maintain their sobriety to do so. We want everyone to succeed, and the best way of doing so is by giving them information on how they can stay sober every day - even when addiction seems like too much of a challenge!

Stay away from triggers
One of the first things you learn while at a center for alcohol and drug treatment is to avoid potentially triggering people and places. If your previous group of friends are enablers or have substance abuse habits themselves, they could harm your recovery and trigger you into reverting back to harmful behavior. In addition, places where you used to take substances, like bars and clubs, can be triggering for those in recovery, no matter how long you've stayed sober. The best way to maintain your sobriety successfully is to avoid these kinds of triggers.

Spend time with supportive people
Avoiding triggers is only part of the solution. To maintain your sobriety, you need to surround yourself with supportive people. These people can be friends, family, fellow sober companions, or sponsors. Keep a thoughts journal
A healthy mind leads the way to a healthy life. Keeping a journal for all your thoughts, feelings, and urges will help you keep your bad thoughts at bay. Sometimes we can have hidden triggers and individual stressors that could push a recovering substance abuser to relapse. Even after visiting a center for alcohol and drug treatment, we all can feel tempted every once in a while. So whenever you feel an urge to slip back into your old ways, take a pen and jot down your feelings in a journal - write down the time, date, and any recent events that could have caused you to feel this way. Once you have a few weeks of entries, you might be able to pinpoint hidden triggers and stressors that set off your bad thoughts.
